How often should my air filter be changed?
Every 30 days
How often should I have my heating and air conditioning system serviced?
Two times a year, once for heating season and once for cooling system
How long do heating and air conditioning systems typically last?
Typically 10-15 years
Where does the water coming out of the drain line come from?
It is humidity that is being removed from your home?
When choosing a heating and air conditioning system is "bigger better"?
Absolutely not, a heating and air system must be sized properly. An oversized system creates shorter run times causing high humidity in the house and leading to mold and mildew. An undersized system will not cool and heat the house properly on cold or hot days
Why does my heat pump make a loud noise sometimes on cold days?
A heat pump goes into a defrost cycle during the winter time, more often on colder days. This occurs to keep ice from building up around the outside unit.
What happens if my air filter gets dirty?
The air conditioner can and will freeze up and system efficiency drops tremendously because of reduced air flow
Should I keep the weeds and grass away from my heating and air conditioning system?
Yes the system needs room around so that it can breath for proper operation
Why does the air from my heat pump feel "cool" instead of "hot"?
The air temperature of heat pumps is typically 100-105 degree which feels cool because the human body is around 99 degrees
Why are some rooms warmer or cooler than others in my house?
This most likely comes from improperly sized duct work or an old inefficient duct system
Why does my air conditioner run all day on hot days?
A properly sized system will run constantly on a 98 degree day for continuous humidity removal and maintaining a comfortable temperature
Why do my hardwood floors separate in the winter time?
This happens primarily from lack of humidity in the air. Gas or oil heat especially dries out the air in the winter time.
How should I leave my foundation vents in the summer versus winter?
There is no right or wrong answer. Each person has a different opinion. A conditioned crawlspace will solve an issues under your home
Why does my air conditioner freeze up periodically in the summer time?
Most likely this happen because of a low refrigeration level. Also a dirty air filter, undersized return duct, dirty evaporator coil, or a faulty indoor blower motor can cause this
Why do I see frost around the outside of my heat pump in the winter time?
The outside coil actually extracts heat from the outside air in the winter time. The small amount of moisture in the air condenses on the outside coil causing frost lines to form
Which system is cheaper to operate a gas furnace or an electric heat pump?
In most cases a heat pump is cheaper to operate but it depends on many factors pertaining to age of house, the window type, and how well the house is insulated
Why does the air coming out of my vents from my heat pump smell like "dirty socks or a locker room" in the winter time?
Its a condition we commonly refer to as "dirty sock syndrome". This happens after the air conditioner has ran all summer. During the summer the indoor coil and drain pan are saturated with water constantly. During the winter when the heat is ran the indoor coil gets hot which causes a chemical reaction with the by products of the water causing this distinct smell. It is easily treated.
